CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES – LENTEN PROGRAM

Catholic Relief Services if the Roman Catholic Church’s international relief organization. While they assist with the basic human needs of the poor throughout the world, during Lent there is a special collection called RICE BOWL.  The cardboard rice bowls can be found in the back of church.

How is the money used?

Lenten alms go to alleviate hunger and poverty in communities around the world and in the U.S.: 75% percent of gifts support CRS’ International humanitarian programs, including in the countries featured in the Lenten calendar. Some examples include:

The other 25% of gifts remain in each U.S. diocese where they are given to hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in those communities. Each diocese uses this differently. Contact your local CRS Diocesan Director to find out how the local 25% is used in your diocese.

Catholic Charities Appeal

WHEN YOU SUPPORT THE CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL YOU ARE HELPING:

  • Social Services: Last year, nearly 610,000 people were positively impacted by the work of Catholic Social Services and Nutritional Development Services.
  • Evangelization: Countless lives are touched through support provided by various ministries within the Secretariat for Evangelization, including the Office for Life and Family, the Office for Cultural Ministries, and the Office for Persons with Disabilities.
  • Special Education: More than 100 students in the Schools of Special Education within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia receive tuition assistance and support.
  • Mission Parishes: Mission Parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are revitalizing and sustaining their community, including ministering to over 50,000 parishioners.
  • Sick and Retired Priests: There are currently 129 retired priests within the Archdiocese who count on the support of the CCA.
