Servant of God, Father Bill Atkinson
Did you know that the Augustinian Order has one of their own local priests on the road to sainthood?
Father Bill Atkinson, born in 1946, was injured in a toboggan accident while in the seminary. Although Father Bill was paralyzed from the neck down, he was ordained in 1974 and ministered to the boys at Monsignor Bonner in Drexel Hill. Father Bill died in 2006.
Father Bill was known for his wonderful sense of humor, except in the classroom. His mere presence created discipline, order, and control. He was known to be an excellent teacher, encouraging moderator, and compassionate confessor. He is now in the process to become a recognized saint of the Catholic Church, as several local miracles have been attributed to his intercession.
